PIERCING AFTER CARE
What’s the best thing to clean my piercing with?
We all remember being told to use salt water on our piercings. Or being up sold a piercing solution which is nearly always salt solution with chemicals to preserve.
Salt absolutely has it’s history in a medical setting however we don’t live in the Middle Ages there is something more effective to use. Salt is not anti bacterial it’s not “killing” any bacteria, it is a corrosive so it can burn the wound. It also dehydrates which is not necessarily what you need.
I always remind people that when you have surgery you’re not advised to put salt on them, when you get tattooed you also don’t get told to put salt water on your tattoo.
The adage literally goes “to rub salt on the wound” means to make things worse!
Everything that you need is in the kits that I provide. The kits are carefully put together using my years of experience and the comprehensive course that I qualified.
The pink spray in your kit is hand made by me! It starts life as a unique medical soap Hibiscrub. This particular soap is used pre and post surgery. The soap is anti bacterial, anti septic, anti microbe and anti fungal. This soap is very specific to the cultures that live on our skin. I dilute this soap down with purified water and essential oils. Tea Tree due to it’s antibacterial properties and Lavender to soothe and reduce swelling.
Leave it alone
Bacteria lives on your body all the time, particularly on your hands and your piercing is an open wound. Twisting the jewellery is just tearing the skin trying to heal and it causes damage.
Keep it clean
Give your piercing a spritz with the cleaning solution and clean both sides with cotton buds and lightly dry. Don't leave your piercing wet.
Your piercing will have dried blood and gunk around it. Bruising is also very normal.
The residue is part of your body’s natural healing process. However that residue sitting on your jewellery will just collect bacteria from your hair, clothes, pillow etc.
Clean in the morning and in the evening until there is no longer any residue around your piercing.
This is usually a week or so but is different for everyone. When there's no gunk stop cleaning your piercing!
Your body is more than capable of looking after itself, it only needs assistance in the first few days.
Over cleaning can cause issues.
