Jewellery Size Guide

Finding the right size jewellery for your piercing is really important.

When it comes to fit, jewellery which is too long or too short can cause damage to your piercing. It’s all about finding the sweet spot so you don’t feel your jewellery.

Below is my guide based on my years of experience as a professional body piercer.

  • We all know that Butterfly back studs are a one size fit all type of jewellery, no explanation needed.

When it comes to flat back and fixed front ball back pieces they will also fit in lobe piercings. Lobes are often done as a child and can start to close up, I recommend wearing a 1.2mm gauge to keep them open and to get longevity out of your piercings. Jewellery in lobes which is too thin can tear the tissue over time especially if heavy.

I love a Huggie hoop! Perfect in lobe piercings from 8mm to a bigger exaggerated look of a 12mm.

  • All of these piercings prefer straight jewellery such as flat back Labrets and fixed front ball back pieces.

    1.2mm Gauge is always recommended

In a healed piercing, 6mm in length is average for most ladies

    (our ears are smaller)

Jewellery which is too long moves around too much and sleeping on a piercing with out sized jewellery can cause the angle of a piercing to change.

Hoops can be worn in these piercings but always ensure that the piercings are healed.

Helix 8mm a huge hoop sits flatter and flush with the edge of the ear

Forward Helix & Tragus Go smaller! A 6mm hoop is best

Conch Huggie hoops are absolutely the way togo in the Conch. They don’t pass through the piercing and the shape is much more comfortable, trust me!

In my experience a hoop that doesn’t put pressure on the piercing but reaches to the outer edge of the ear most ladies are looking for a 10mm hoop - 14mm hoop. Look at the thickness of your ear at that part of your ear as it really does vary.

  • Curved jewellery! Most comfortable with a clicker hoop but you can also wear a curved barbell in the Daith

    1.2mm Gauge is always recommended

In a healed piercing, 8mm diameter hoop or a 8mm curved barbell

Clicker hoops have detailing flat on the front of the jewellery not on the edge of the hoop. This is because this jewellery sits flat within the ear.

These hoops are also great in a Septum piercing which also an 8mm is perfect for.

  • A curved barbell is best

    1.2mm Gauge is always recommended

In a healed piercing 6mm length curved barbell

You can wear hoops in these piercings. I would always recommend a plain hinged hoop in these piercings 6mm diameter is best.

  • A straight barbell

1.6mm Gauge the only piercing on the ear in this gauge

In a healed piercing 32mm in length.
